Val Fitzpatrick

Val began her career in art at the Wollongong National Art School in 1965-70 studying under the direction of Ivan Englund Les Burcher and Clem Millward. After this solid foundation and always eager to learn new techniques Val consistently studied at various seminars and workshops concentrating on personal development and self-expression.

Described as an expressionist painter her love of texture fuelled by an intense interest in ancient history and mythology has resulted in a unique mixed media style use of fabric fibre applied hand coloured paper and sculptured relief is often featured throughout her work. In 1979 Val became an art tutor in the NSW TAFE system spanning fourteen years and during this time was invited to tutor at the Mitchell College - Charles Sturt University Bathurst.

A graduate in textile printing and design Val decided to open her own Art School in Gunnedah NSW which she conducted until her move to Canberra in 1996. Val is a successful exhibiter winning numerous awards and is represented in civic corporate private and overseas collections she is a member of the Canberry Painters based in Canberra. In February 1999 her work. was featured in the Australian artist Magazine
