Judy Wilford

Judy Wilford is a multi-talented artist who over the years has worked her way through painting designing printmaking weaving ceramics and needlework. Surprisingly her background is in nursing first as a midwife in England and later with the Flying Doctor Service in West Australia. Judy discovered fabric and thread in the early 80s. With some help from correspondence courses she taught herself the ins and outs of needlework. She is now frequently called upon to conduct her own workshops.

The concepts and designs in Judy's textile work draws on her experiences with dying printing and painting. She employs many traditional embroidery techniques such as layering shadow work appliqu padding quilting and distortion. Her stitching binds together various fabrics and threads such as silk cotton linen wool and suede. She also uses beads shells and metal. Each piece has its individual definition dimension and dew.

Judy's work reflects the delight and inspiration she derives from the landscape around her.

"I love this land of ours. I love its colour its textures its wonderful contrasts and its emotions. To me our land is a living entity and as such must be nurtured".
