Artist Born in country NSW Jan Barnett began her formal aft studies at Caulfield Institute of Technology (now Monash University) studying figure drawing painting illustration printmaking & design. She worked in Melbourne as an illustrator before becoming a full-time artist in her mid-twenties.
She has won over 80 major art awards including awards from competitions held at the Victorian Artists Society Gallery and throughout NSW Victoria and South Australia. Jan has held major exhibitions including those held at the Victorian Artists Society Gallery Shepparton Regional Art Gallery and Bungendore Woodworks Gallery and in Echuca Whittlesea Tocumwal Cobram Lockhart Mildura Mitchelton Seymour and Bruny Island Tasmania to name a few Practicing in oils watercolour pastel mixed media printmaking and sculpture Jan translates her subjects in a realist style figuratively with humour and on other occasions she prefers a non-traditional interpretive approach.
She conducts tutorials demonstrations critiques and workshops throughout the region and is highly valued as a judge. Jan recently won the 2007 Carm Sculpture Award conducted by the Shepparton Arts Festival in conjunction with the University of Melbourne Jan continues to travel extensively throughout Australia pursuing inspiration and gaining an ever-deepening connection with her environment.
