Helen Fitzgerald is an experienced artist and teacher. She holds degrees in Applied Science and Art Education and has studied overseas at the University of Vienna and the University of Perugia in Italy. Helen's first painting was accepted for the Wynne Prize exhibition in Sydney when she was only nineteen. She taught senior art at Kambala School in Sydney in 1966-67 before going overseas to work and study for three years. Helen moved to Queanbeyan in 1972 teaching tertiary students in various Canberra institutions including the Canberra School of Art and nine years at the Faculty of Applied Science at Canberra University.
This new exhibition "The rains have come . . " will be a response to the ending, however temporary this may be, to over 20 years of drought and semi drought throughout most of central and southern Australia and in particular the Canberra and Southern Tablelands regions in which she works and lives.
