We were deeply saddened to hear of John Beasley's untimely passing in January this year. The gallery has had a rich relationship spanning over 20 years with John, he has been a constant presence with his work constantly displayed. He was also involved in numerous exhibitions both solo and group.
John's work was always distinctive. He created abstract forms that required incredible skill and ingenuity to shape and sand. These forms appeared elegantly simple but were in actuality very complex. His approach to form and shape was influenced by the Japanese concepts of Wabi (simple quietude) and Sabi (elegant simplicity).
John was not just an award winning sculptor, he was a writer of books and about plants, inventor of tools, active community member, teacher and a delightful friend that will be missed by many.
