Helen Fitzgerald: Colours of Australia

Friday 17 May 2013

Finke River, Watercolour

An Exhibition of Landscape, Flora and Fauna Watercolours by Canberra Region artist Helen Fitzgerald.

Exhibition Opening Sunday 5th May, 2013 at 11am

By The Hon. Steve Whan, MLC
Shadow Minister for Resources and Primary Industries, Tourism Major Events Hospitality and Racing and Rural Water

Exhibition continues until 9 June, 2013.

Over recent years Helen Fitzgerald has pursued a program of extended visits to outback parts of the Australian environment. Treading both sides of life as a landscape and botanical artist,
her trips to the source are essential in the pursuit of capturing the true nature of the landscape and its flora and fauna.

Trips in 2012 to outback Birdsville and its famed ‘track’, her annual Lockhart botanical field trip to the Galore Hill Arboretum area complete with students and a 9000km odyssey to Albany in West Australia have ‘recharged my artistic batteries.’

Double Vision: Richard Morecroft Exhibition Catalogue

Friday 14 December 2012

The Hook in the Heart $1,200 - 68x73cm Pigment ink on photographic paper

Double Vision brings together the inspiring works of two very different artists – yet is also a celebration of powerfully shared themes.

For both artists, the exploration of pattern and structure in the natural environment is a key element. Stubbles’ richly tactile, yet painterly, abstracted landscapes and Morecroft’s seductively detailed photographs are an intriguing combination.

Richard Morecroft

Richard Morecroft may be best known for his work on television – especially with his SBS show Letters and Numbers. For several years now he has been exhibiting his distinctive landscape photographs that create a sense of immersion in the environment.

Richard has been dealing with points of view for many years, particularly while with ABCTV, for most of his working life. In the main they have been the views of others. But now he is addressing his own points of view through his unique photographic representations of the Australian Landscape.

Bryce Courtney, Well Remembered.

Tuesday 04 December 2012

On a late winter Saturday afternoon Bryce Courtney breezed into the gallery. There was urgency if not desperation to find a box to fit the stack of hand written manuscript for his first novel “the Power of One”. No box in the gallery was deep enough. How deep? About 200 mm. We can have it made to order. “In a week?” “For my wife’s birthday!” A week. Phone calls. And yes, says Garrick Blue, I have one length of timber that would suit. If I drop everything I can do it in a week.

Smiles and relief all around. And on leaving Bryce said, “Everyone in Bungendore is so friendly.”

We asked Bryce to write a few words about his experience with Bungendore Wood Works Gallery and he wrote back soon after expressing what we do and what we are about better then we could ever do.

Anton Gerner - Review by Meredith Hinchliffe

Monday 29 October 2012

Viewers can see several influences in Anton Gerner’s work. He has been working for the past twenty years or so, using traditional hand tools, construction techniques and finishes. He keeps solid quality timber – until just the right piece is conceived. We are told that he personally chooses each piece of timber and assesses the grain, colour, strength and texture, matching the perfect timber with a unique piece of handcrafted piece of furniture.
