As part of the Fireside Festival and to celebrate having The Hannah Cabinet on show, the Gallery hosted an evening on Friday 16th August based around a viewing and demonstration of the Cabinet including fire twirling, open fire, mulled wine and an in depth viewing and demonstration with Exhibition Coordinator Stan d’Argeavel of the $1.5 million Hannah Cabinet.

Many excited and appreciative guests braved the cold and enjoyed the fire twirling before sitting down to watch Exhibition Coordinator Stan d’Argeavel delve into the Hannah Cabinet.

Bungendore Wood Works Gallery opened September 14 in 1983. Thirty years later an exhibition featuring the work of 29 designer makers and artists will open that does not look to the past, but to the future. The title of the exhibition is NEXT. This is something all involved ponder, not only the very nature of the objects they design and make, but possible new directions for their practice and indeed their lives.

Another happy customer

Last year the Toyota (QLD office) asked us to create their logo out of a native Queensland timber to be awarded to dealerships as a recognition of their success.

Although creating a complex logo out of timber presented various design and manufacturing challenges we worked with one of our makers to create a final product that was beautiful and well crafted.

The first order was made from Queensland Walnut, and when Toyota asked us to create another round of awards this year we used Queensland Black Wattle.

New furniture on display in the Octagon ArtSpace by Ben Percy. 27 July – 26 August, 2013.

Ben Percy is a exciting and passionate emerging designer maker. Soon after gradating with honours as a Design and Technology teacher he challenged himself to work outside his comfort zone of wood and focused on stainless fabrication. With a passion for learning and a desire to design and make quality contemporary furniture, Percy then studied at the prestigious Sturt School for Wood in Mittagong where he was awarded the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies Young Arts Scholarship. His designs are unique and creative, allowing him to construct bespoke pieces that are hand-crafted to the highest standard.

Ben Percy designs furniture that creates interest and contrast by using a divergent mix of materials including timber, plastics, aluminium and stainless steel.

"It's Even Better"

Monday 15 July 2013

We recieved a friendly note via email recently directing us to a page about Bungendore on http://www.bonzle.com that included some very kind words on the Gallery.

Bungendore has the most fabulous wood gallery. I’m talking on a world scale here. The works have to be seen to be believed. One item was a wooden case with a glass front containing around 500 hand-carved miniature boots – each one made of a different wood to all the others! That just took up a small part of this amazing place.

Since 1992 it has earned no fewer than 17 tourism awards, two of them national and has had the works of over 200 artists on display. The rest of the village is nice and historical but, about half a kilometre out of town the suburbs are exploding with new development.

Helen Fitzgerald: Colours of Australia

Friday 17 May 2013

Finke River, Watercolour

An Exhibition of Landscape, Flora and Fauna Watercolours by Canberra Region artist Helen Fitzgerald.

Exhibition Opening Sunday 5th May, 2013 at 11am

By The Hon. Steve Whan, MLC
Shadow Minister for Resources and Primary Industries, Tourism Major Events Hospitality and Racing and Rural Water

Exhibition continues until 9 June, 2013.

Over recent years Helen Fitzgerald has pursued a program of extended visits to outback parts of the Australian environment. Treading both sides of life as a landscape and botanical artist,
her trips to the source are essential in the pursuit of capturing the true nature of the landscape and its flora and fauna.

Trips in 2012 to outback Birdsville and its famed ‘track’, her annual Lockhart botanical field trip to the Galore Hill Arboretum area complete with students and a 9000km odyssey to Albany in West Australia have ‘recharged my artistic batteries.’
