The Hannah Cabinet to remain in Bungendore

Friday 22 November 2013

Due to popular demand and substantial interest by Gallery patrons the magnificent Hannah Cabinet will remain at Bungendore Wood Works Gallery through the New Year.

The Cabinet was to be exhibited at the Ballina Regional Gallery in northern NSW from late November through December, however the Ballina Gallery has offered to have the Cabinet remain in Bungendore. This is very much appreciated as the Cabinet has attracted a thirty percent increase in visitors to the gallery since arriving here in late May. It also affords Bungendore Wood Works Gallery an extended period to seek a permanent home for the Cabinet in an institution or Gallery in the Canberra/ACT Region

Batemans Bay bush fires

Tuesday 29 October 2013

"Met one of your craftsmen last wednesday in Springwood when he & his fire crew from Batemans Bay defended houses in our street against possible fire attack. During the lull he talked about his wood work. I would like to visit your gallery during one of our frequent trips between the Blue Mtns & Canberra... to view and possibly buy a sample of his work by way of thanks. Thank you."

We recieved this comment via our website from a Batemans Bay resident who met Jamie Pryor while fighting the recent bush fires. Jamie lives in the Bay area and when not working at Beach House Stairs creates functional accessories in Australian timber.

Helmut Lueckenhausen - House Teraphim 1

Thirty years is a milestone in anyone’s terms. For a commercial gallery to run for thirty years is a great achievement – one worth acknowledging and celebrating.

Bungendore Wood Works Gallery opened in September 1983. The Gallery’s aims have remained consistent throughout the intervening years, although of course things have changed – including moving to new and especially designed premises.

Bungendore Wood Works continues to promote and support the designing and making of fine woodwork and David Mac Laren’s generosity and generosity of spirit infuses the gallery and all those involved with it.

Next is an exhibition that celebrates the past thirty years, but with its gaze very firmly in the future. The word ‘next’ is imbued with anticipation, excitement and the unknown.

An Illustrated History of the Dovetail Joint

Thursday 22 August 2013

Back in the good old days when men were men and women were suitably grateful, woodworking was a crude and artless business, with nails and poor quality glues adding what little strength there was to the woodworking joints. This was not good enough for one young Irish visionary. Fergus Murphy, who determined to find a A Better Way. Fergus, believing that the wood was cut and joined could alone provide all the strength that was required, was one day sitting gazing at his father's dovecot when he was suddenly transfixed by an that was to eventually revolutionise the woodworking scene. Last year the Toyota (QLD office) asked us to create their logo out of a native Queensland timber to be awarded to dealerships as a recognition of their success.

Although creating a complex logo out of timber presented various design and manufacturing challenges we worked with one of our makers to create a final product that was beautiful and well crafted.

The first order was made from Queensland Walnut, and when Toyota asked us to create another round of awards this year we used Queensland Black Wattle.
