Tony Kenway

As a prominent Australian designer Tony Kenway has developed a unique range of furniture drawing inspiration from simple elegant forms found in the natural environment and a love of Australia’s rare and unique timbers.This together with a traditional background in cabinet making and boat-building has led to international recognition for his designs and craftsmanship. Tony prefers to use solid timber carefully selected for its lasting beauty strength and flexibility. Designs have evolved from years of careful consideration to function form comfort and proportion.

His furniture has won national design awards and art prizes as well as excellence awards from the Furniture Association of Australia. In 1998 Tony was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to travel to Japan Italy Spain England and USA to work with prominent designers and workshops including the Queens’ Royal Collection Workshop London. More recently Tony’s work was selected for the ‘Chair’ an exhibition juried by Sam Maloof held in Worcester MA. USA. Examples of his work are housed in public and private collections both in Australia and abroad including;- The Queensland State Art Gallery Permanent Collection the NSW Forestry ‘Henry Kendal Collection ’ The Tweed Art Gallery Permanent Collection The ‘Himi’ Chair collection Sizuoka Japan and in the William Morris Trust House London.
