Visual artist and author Suzanne Chick lives on the South Coast of NSW looking down on the beautiful clear turquoise waters of Jervis Bay. She has travelled widely throughout Australia and in Italy and Greece. Suzanne trained at the National Arts School and Sydney Teacher's College received her Diploma in Art Education in 1978 and devoted 30 years to teaching others how to make art. She works in oils acrylics and mixed media and has spent the last 14 years exhibiting her own work regularly. Suzanne's positive view on life shines from contemporary canvases based on singular moments of joy.
She is perhaps best known for bold light-filled works which capture the essence of the clear waters of her beloved South Coast its clarity and patterns and especially its underwater swimmers. In 1991 Suzanne discovered that her birth mother was iconic Australian literary figure Charmian Clift and began an emotional and all-consuming quest for information on her life. Suzanne believes it was an epic personal journey into self that she had to make. Her 1994 book Searching for Charmian become a best seller. It was short-listed for three major literary awards and called '. . . a remarkable book' by the Sydney Morning Herold.
There is little doubt that the genes of creativity can be inherited and pure evidence of this is to be found in the wonderful and insightful visual art and writing of Suzanne Chick.
