Master cellist David Pereira recently teamed with visiting US cellist Michael Haber and members of The Cello Tragics Cello Choir in one of the most outstanding concerts heard in the Octagon Artspace. The first half saw Pereira and Haber playing cello duets by composers Dominic Gabrielli, Luigi Boccherini, JB de Boismortier and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

They were joined for the first piece of the second half by Canberra’s Kinga Janiszewksi on bass for a premiere performance of an arrangement of J.S Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto VI for two celli and bass. The arrangement was by Joseba Berrocal, Ass Prof. University of Zaragoza, Spain, 2012.

The final piece of the evening provided for the most emotional and musically stunning performance the Gallery has been host to over the past thirteen years. Pereira playing lead cello together with Cello Tragics, Jack Hobbs Julia Janiszewski and Anneliese McGee-Collett, presented a special arrangement for four celli by Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin of her Phoenix Story suite in two movements, Tears from Above and Courting the Dragon.

The second concert of David Pereira’s 2012 Concert Series at the Gallery will be held on Friday  October 26 featuring David  Pereira cello, Geoffrey Lancaster harpsichord, together with a string quartet featuring an evening of music by the Bach Family. Tickets are available at the Gallery, by phone on 62381682 or buy them online.
